- The Laser
Engineering Group is the UK's largest university based research
facility specialising in engineering applications of lasers. It
comprises 32 researchers, students and support staff and carries
out work on over 40 programmes, most in collaboration with industry,
valued at over 1 million pounds sterling per year.
Areas of interest laser surface treatments (including laser surface
alloying, laser cladding, laser heat treatment), laser cleaning
(including art conservation and industrial processes), laser marking,
laser welding (including 3-D welding), laser cutting, laser replication.
The Group has recently established a new Laser Engineering Centre
at Lairdside which features state of the art laser facilities
